The Challenge
People trying to stay present during prayer were pulled away by the same device they used to know when to pray. Notifications and habitual app-checking intrude precisely during the prayer window, and willpower alone is an unreliable defence against a phone designed to interrupt.
Notifications arriving exactly during the prayer window.
Existing apps announcing times, then stopping.
Habitual checking not fixed by intention.
The operating system tightly limiting cross-app blocking.
Approach & Solution
smartData built the app using the platform's own screen-time and device-activity frameworks rather than working around them, so app restriction operates within its privacy and policy constraints instead of against them. Prayer times are detected automatically and blocking activates for the window without user action.
Users select which apps freeze and configure their own prayer timings, check in on completion, and build a seven-day streak. The interface is deliberately minimal, drawing on Islamic design principles, with profiles, notification settings and subscription handled in the app.
Key Features
Prayer windows calculated without manual entry.
Chosen apps frozen for the prayer duration.
A seven-day tracker supporting consistency.
Blocked apps, timings and notifications all configurable.

Final Outcome
The app closes the gap other prayer apps leave open — knowing when prayer begins and actively protecting it — working inside the platform's privacy rules rather than asking the user to police their own attention.
